- This Baby Safety Month, ACI Is Helping Parents Picture Pinterest-Worthy Safe Storage Solutions
- More than 50% of Americans say they plan to, would consider or already store laundry products in decorative jars or clear containers
During Baby Safety Month, the American Cleaning Institute (ACI) is challenging popular social media trends by offering parents and caregivers laundry room guidance and inspiration that prioritizes the safety of young children.
If you search #laundryroomgoals on Instagram, you’ll find no shortage of picture-perfect spaces, featuring liquid laundry packets and detergents in decorative jars and containers. Many people are embracing this aesthetic, with 52% admitting they currently follow this trend, have followed this trend, or considered doing so, according to a recent ACI survey. However, while these displays may be visually appealing, the practice comes with a hidden danger: storing cleaning products in clear containers increases the risk of accidental exposure for babies and young children.
As part of our ongoing Packets Up! Campaign, ACI continues to provide parents and caregivers with accessible safety resources. The newest addition is an image bank on packetsup.com, showcasing safe yet stylish examples of cleaning product storage throughout the home, from laundry rooms to under-the-sink cabinets.
These images build on ACI’s #StoreNotDecor safety video launched in July, which highlights the importance of keeping laundry products in their original containers and stored up and out of sight.
“Cleaning is essential to keeping ourselves and family healthy and safe, and that also means being mindful of how we store our cleaning products,” said Brian Sansoni, ACI Senior Vice President of Communications. “While social media posts of laundry and cleaning products in clear jars and containers are trending online, ideas for child-safe yet stylish spaces are harder to find. Our goal with these images is to inspire people to create spaces that are both beautiful and practical, with safe storage solutions.”
Baby Safety Month is a timely reminder that with a curious toddler or a newborn in the home, keeping everyday spaces accessible yet safe is a must. So, the next time you’re assessing your cleaning product inventory, bringing home new supplies, or tackling laundry day, remember to keep products in their original containers and store them up and out of sight.
